Slay Your Day
A typical day requires pushing our entire bodies for sustained periods of time with maximum energy and extreme focus. We gain so much strength and often let willpower control our eating habits. Yet, true power comes from keeping our mind and muscles firing as evenly as possible throughout the day, rather than managing spikes and crashes.
Keep it simple and listen to how your digestion reacts to certain combinations of foods. (For more on combining food groups, check out my Nutritional Support.) Even without major sensitivities, it’s best to steer clear of belly-bloating peanuts, roasted nuts and dried fruit that is preserved with sulpher dioxide.
The most effective habit is starting the day packing the most nutritious ingredients into a smoothie (and where things can hide if you don’t like them on their own). A good one includes frozen banana, kale/spinach, cilantro, avocado, dates, raw almond butter, coconut/oat/almond milk and Golden Milk (to fight inflammation). It’s such a great way to feel fierce in a leotard while energized and satisfied for hours.
For portable power, I love the 8Greens and Nuun electrolyte fizzy tablets to drop in my water. The Sunflower and Almond butter MacroBars are great for vegan protein, as well as baby food pouches that have everything in them from veggies and grains to chia seeds and greek yogurt!
Yes, I take vitamins. As extremely active individuals with very “particular” eating habits and schedules, it can be tricky to chew on enough nutrients to properly support our stamina and immune system. I do believe in the power of a high quality, easily digestible supplement with whole-food-based ingredients, so I rely on Vitamin Code supplements as my back up.
I find something very mindful and rhythmic about taking the day in small chapters. That means taking a moment to reset, either with herbal tea or this extra special earl grey, which has been a long-time favorite. I always stashed a selection in my theater case for pre-performance prep time.
